| The Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town began to become a reality in 1960 when, in terms of the will of the late Dr W. Duncan Baxter, an amount of money was bequeathed to the University of Cape Town for the purpose of establishing a theatre which would, in the words of Dr Baxter, "develop and cultivate the arts in Cape Town and the adjacent districts".
The theatre provides an exciting forum for the celebration of life which is the essence of live theatre, music and dance. It is one of the major live theatre venues in Cape Town and has always been at the forefront of the performing arts both as a popular venue and as a leading producer. |

Mostert's Mill was built on a farm in the valley of the Liesbeek River at the end of the 18th century. The farm was Welgelegen, the property of Gysbert van Reenen, a member of one of the foremost families at the Cape. it is believed that the windmill was built in 1796 the year after the battle of Muizenberg when the British took control of the Cape.
